I have heard “a penny for your thoughts”. How about “a stick for your thoughts”? Effective only for dogs? How about for imaginary persons? I can do nothing with a penny (unless there is an imaginary world where I can spend imaginary pennies to buy imaginary things - pointless according to me). So a stick might be as effective as a penny… Or probably just a considerate person (or imaginary person) to lend an ear to my thoughts. Ultimately, everyone craves for human company. Even imaginary persons do.
